Did you attend St Matthew’s Primary School in Cambridge? Could you spare £1 (or more) for each year you were at the school?

In 2023, St Matthew’s, like so many schools across the country, was plunged into a budgetary crisis, mainly due to rising staff costs and energy prices. We are fundraising to avoid cuts to a range of essential facilities and services – some of which you may remember as a former pupil. These include things like a school councillor, and a music programme for all pupils.

With family budgets being squeezed hard, we wanted to give you, as a former pupil, an opportunity to give back to the place you spent so much of your childhood.

If you’d like to, please visit our Alumni JustGiving page to make a donation. Thank you!

St Matthew’s Primary School has been serving its community on its current site since 1963.  It has grown over the years, having a significant rebuild in 2011-2012, to become a three form entry primary school.  The school now has a capacity for 658 children and is in high demand.  We remain proud of the diversity of our school community – we have 38 different languages spoken by the children in the school – and our amazingly supportive parent body.  Our parents have raised thousands of pounds for the school over the last few years, enabling the school to deliver vital services such counselling and other additional support for vulnerable children, alongside things that all children access such as playground equipment, computers, specialist music teaching.

Our parent body are currently looking to raise funds to enable St Matthew’s to deliver the following this academic year:

·       Purchasing a brand new phonics scheme

·       A new suite of chrome books

·       Delivery of music lessons to all children by a specialist music teacher

·       Sustaining our counselling service

·       Raising funds to support families facing difficult circumstances to pay for school trips

It’s an ambitious list and reflects that St Matthew’s remains an ambitious school where, as our first school aim states, we want learning to be inspiring, challenging and fun”.
